New Orleans

Throughout her childhood, author Rachel L. Carazo was inspired by her grandmother's creativity in painting and writing. When the author became an adult, she used her grandmother's example of creativity and diligence in writing her own novel. Thus, in "The Vaïndrian Queen," (published by Xlibris) she writes a fantasy story of magic, adventure and camaraderie.

This book follows the character of Yvane, the Vaïndrian Queen who ruled her kingdom without fear for centuries as guardian of Viola, the Violet Tourmaline, an ancient gem with great power. However, when a stranger breaks through the magical defenses of her kingdom with the assistance of the forgotten Blue Tourmaline, Yvane's assurances of peace suddenly vanish.

In the wake of this breach, two children, Ricardine and Biron, escape with a valued manuscript, forcing Yvane to begin a search for them and the knowledge of the Tourmalines that evades her. Protected by a cohort of her loyal subjects, Yvane thus commences a journey into the lands that surround her kingdom, prompting events that will alter the Vaïndrian perception of the world and their role alongside its neighboring people.

"The Vaïndrian Queen" has moments of excitement as well as introspection by the characters concerning their fates and flaws. No character in this novel is perfect and each must learn to deal with his or her own mistakes and successes. Readers will be able to identify with this reality and how to appreciate life and its flaws.
