LE ROY, N.Y.

In his 2014 autobiography "Chronic Pain and Me" (published by iUniverse), author Richard N. Scott chronicles his 14-year struggle with intense, chronic pain.

This chronic pain was the result of a fall he took while climbing a set of concrete and steel stairs in October 2000. From that day forward, he endured various medical tests, surgeries and device fittings to reduce the neck and back pain resulting from his fall.

"Chronic Pain and Me" shares Scott's journey to alleviate his ongoing pain, concluding in his ultimate relief from it by way of a device called a spinal cord stimulator.

"The spinal cord stimulator has given me a new life," Scott says. "These units cannot be used by everyone, but I feel there are many different devices that have been created since I was hurt that hopefully are there for people in whom these new devices could now help."

Scott hopes his story of overcoming chronic pain will inspire others to share their own stories and pass along his book to friends or family who may suffer from similar chronic or recurrent conditions.
