WEST LAKES, Australia

In the new science-fiction novel "Orca World" (published by Partridge Singapore) by author Peter Roy Clements, human civilization collapses and the richest man on Earth dies, leaving behind an extensive artistic treasure trove within an underground bunker in the Australian Outback.

Evolution spurs the rise of independently intelligent orca whales who, initially, believe they are the first sentient beings to inhabit the land. One whale in particular, Eccolong, traverses dry land and unearths evidence of bygone human civilization.

"Orca World" tells Eccolong's tale of the discovery of human existence and, eventually, the bunker full of art pieces once owned by the affluent Elliott Morgan.

"Readers will be from among popular science and science fiction readers who like to speculate about alternate worlds and alternate species," Clements says of his book. "I believe this book contains unique and novel concepts that I have not encountered in extensive reading of science fiction."

Clements hopes his book will inspire readers to think critically about the possibility of animal intelligence, as well as the consequences of oil consumption and its harmful effects on civilization as a whole.
