"Panama Wins" (published by Xlibris) is a compelling memoir that shares author Pam Bate's experience living "off the grid" in Panama. It is an absorbing read that also guides readers on how to disconnect from their current world and enjoy the beauty and simplicity of a whole new land.

This book describes what Bates and her husband overcame living in Panama with building from the ground up due to culture and language barriers. Her memories experiences serves as a guiding tool to reader on how to get around in Panama and, more importantly, live "off the grid." It tells about all the friends she and husband had made, the adventures they have been through, the struggles they persevered, and the joy they were engulfed in.

"At the time I started writing this book, there was one other book I read that I didn't think showed what real living was like in Panama. It accented the negative, so I wanted to accent the positive and the negative," Bates explains. "I thought it was important that people knew about "living off the grid" and it's challenges along with the fun things."

Absorbing, energetic and insightful, "Panama Wins" is a book that will appeal to those individuals thinking of living off the grid whether in Panama or somewhere else.

In 2002, she met Pete and they married with the promise to live life. Her employment ranges from secretary for a trucking company, a high school business educator, an administrative assistant for a banker and later a casino manager and vice president with her final job for 20 years as a contract negotiator for the DoD Air Force.

Bates has lived in a variety of places with her parents and her first husband, but it was not until Pete and her found Panama that they truly fell in love with one sight and wanted to make it their vacation home.
