MORGAN CITY, La.

MORGAN CITY, La. - Author Cornel Keeler follows the adventures of a small-town teacher from Louisiana adjusting to life in sunny California in his character-driven new novel, "Our Field Trip - PG-13" (published by Trafford Publishing).

Wendell Carter is a fifth-grade teacher from Louisiana making a new home for himself in picturesque Southern California at East Orange County Elementary School. East Orange County is quite different from his hometown of Morgan City. Located in an upper-middle class area slightly removed from the rich and famous residents of Hollywood, 70 percent of the school's students are driven there in cars.

Told from Mr. Carter's perspective, "Our Field Trip - PG-13" follows his adventures with a group of students on a fifth-grade fieldtrip to the mountains of California. There, they plan to visit an underground cavern, a tropical garden and an amusement park. Several other teachers help out, and Mr. Carter is put in charge of chaperoning five girls.

As the day progresses, Mr. Carter reminisces about his life in Louisiana and the people he met there, comparing them with the wide variety of people he encounters throughout the day on the field trip.

Filled with a unique cast of characters from a variety of backgrounds, "Our Field Trip - PG-13" offers entertainment, escapism and a glimpse into the relationship between students, parents and teachers.
