New York Times Bestselling Author Jane Green Commissions Paisley Dog Letterpress

When 16-time New York Times best-selling novelist Jane Green was looking for a finely-crafted giveaway to present to hundreds of individuals who contributed to her Kickstarter campaign for the Collector's Edition release of "Good Taste"-her foray into the world of cookbook writing-Green selected Reading, Pennsylvania's Paisley Dog Letterpress to create a handmade letterpress bookmark. A US distribution deal with Penguin publishing house has recently made "Good Taste" available in bookstores and online at retailers including Barnes & Noble and Amazon.

"Paisley Dog was my greatest find last year," Green said. "[They were]... professional, punctual, and produced the most beautiful bookmarks. I can't wait for my next project with them!"

Founded in 2008 and run by husband-and-wife serial entrepreneur team Shane and Janelle Paisley, Paisley Dog Letterpress' artisanal print shop and working museum is located in Reading City's renowned GoggleWorks Center for the Arts and can be found online at http://www.paisleydogpress.com. Letterpress is a 550-year-old printmaking process currently enjoying a resurgence among paper and stationery fans. Unlike modern printing techniques, letterpress is a manual process requiring an expert printer's hand to feed each sheet of paper into the press. Inking, registration, and quality are all manually controlled and monitored, resulting in beautiful, deep relief-printed designs you can both see and feel.

"In many ways, we're running a working printmaking museum," said Janelle Paisley, partner and printer. "We have equipment well over 100-years-old and our unique process infuses some modern technology into an old-world process... it allows us to not be limited in selecting fonts or sizes like they were back then. What was once a utility helps us to be storytellers-dialing back the technology to suit the aesthetic or combining elements for a juxtaposition of old and new. Letterpress lets us use eco-friendly materials and print with a very low carbon footprint."

"We worked with Jane to create a fun and useful piece that also had a tactile connection to her book. We manually printed her bookmark on a press circa-1892, using a recycled cotton specialty paper stock with a rich and substantial feel," Paisley added.

Work by Paisley Dog Letterpress has been featured on the Martha Stewart Show and in magazines including Better Homes & Gardens, and has been nominated for three Best New Product Awards at the National Stationery Show. The press produces custom and unique luxury invitations, greeting cards, note cards, and prints.
