Author Karen Deitering Wilson melds the modern-day world with a fantasy world of a place called Zandora in her new book, "Legend of Zandora: Birth of the Maiden" (published by AuthorHouse), the story of a young girl and how her experiences change the way she thinks.

"Anything is possible if you make your mind up to do something," Wilson says. "You are the only one who can put restrictions on yourself. You can't give up just because it's hard."

Paige needs to prove that her father is still alive, despite his mysterious disappearance. She ventures out on her own and finds herself in Zandora, a world with evil villains, wizards and talking animals. Along her journey to take on the villain, Paige discovers that she'll have to change the way she thinks about hunger, anger, hopelessness and how to deal with a broken heart if she wants to survive.

"With age comes experiences, with experience comes knowledge, with knowledge comes wisdom and your actions have consequences," Wilson says. "In the end we see Paige transform from a teenager who knew everything, to a young woman asking, 'Was it worth it?'"

Under the guidance of a wise old spider named Gundar, Paige breaks through her stubbornness and realizes she needs help. She places her fate in the most unlikely animals and creatures as she accepts the responsibility as the Maiden of Zandora.
