New Short Story Collection I AM CATHOLIC is Released

For Catholics struggling with their faith, author Hilary De Freitas shares her experience living with a modern Catholic faith in her new collection of short stories, "I Am Catholic: The Paths We All Take" (published by AuthorHouse).

Organized into 12 short stories, "I Am Catholic" illustrates the daily lives of 12 Catholics who must align their faiths with the problems they encounter in modern life. The stories reflect the struggles of Catholics who seek inclusion and acceptance after dealing with topics such as abortion, divorce and rape.

"These are issues that challenge people to truly live a Catholic faith because they believe that if they have committed or been involved in any of these situations they are no longer welcome," De Freitas says. "This book shows that not only are you welcome but the Church can help you."

The stories also depict treasured Catholic traditions and customs, such as praying the Rosary. In the story of "Prayer," a woman finds solace in praying the Rosary not for her dearly departed, but for those still living and grieving those departed.

As a child, De Freitas practiced the Catholic faith, but as she grew older, her faith waned and strayed off. She later returned to her faith and has been mentoring other Catholics ever since. She hopes her message of inclusion in the Catholic faith will resonate with readers.
