New Children's Book, The Spider in My Den, is Released

Spiders have long been vilified and feared by adults and children alike. One author is working to change the perceptions of the spider-fearing public by highlighting the need to be mindful of all creatures.

In her endearing new children's book, "The Spider in My Den," author Rebecca Crosdale tells the story of a spider who likes to spend time with humans. Through her positive portrayal of the friendly spider and her personal comparison to people who are generally outcasts in society, Crosdale aims to gain the sympathy of skeptical readers.

"We all need to be mindful not only of ourselves, but of others," Crosdale said. "We all serve a purpose on this planet, even the little creatures."

Through her lovable tale, Crosdale paints a new picture of the once feared arachnid and teaches a valuable lesson of not being quick to judge.

Crosdale said, "My goal is to continue to bring about the awareness that all creatures, be it human, animal or insect, have a need to survive, to be loved, and to share this beautiful place we call Earth."

Rebecca Crosdale is a medicaid service coordinator in Long Island, N.Y., where she helps children with epilepsy lead productive lives. When she's not helping those afflicted with disabilities, Crosdale enjoys gardening, traveling, photography, and cooking. Crosdale was born in Jamaica, spent nine years in England, and now currently resides in Coram, N.Y. "The Spider in My Den" is her first children's book.
