BRUSSELS, Belgium

In "A Short History of England, 2020-2089" (published by Xlibris UK) the author David Tirr provides an objective snapshot of a fictional country, but one familiar to many British readers- a country whose institutions are already losing force and where a new morality and profound political and economic change become essential if it is to survive and prosper.

"A Short History of England, 2020-2089" is the autobiography of one of the movers and shakers in mid and late 21st century England, Sir Jeremy Lewin. It describes a century in which the country passes through rapid economic collapse, political isolation and moral degradation to find a new way forward. As long-standing institutions begin to fail, the country desperately searches for new political and moral beliefs. These, combined with daring technological innovation, ultimately transform a post-industrial, post-imperial England very similar to the Britain everyone knows today into a very different country...

It is predominantly written for those who enjoy reading both history and speculation about the future, especially those who closely follow current events. It is a history, even if one based in the future, and attempts to be as "realistic" as such fiction can be.

About the Author
David Tirr was born in Yorkshire, England, and was educated there and at Oxford University. He has spent most of his active life as a civil servant, first in London and then in Brussels, always specializing in foreign relations. He has worked for the British government, the European Commission and the European External Service. He still lives in Brussels but frequently travels to the UK and a number of other European countries. A historian by training, Tirr has always questioned why people believe what they believe. For him, religion and mythology - ancient and modern - have always driven the course of events and redefined the identity of peoples; so faith, the stories around which faith is built, and the political consequences have always shaped history - be it truth or fiction.
