Soccer is a very colorful sport. It is equal parts athleticism, drama, humor and in the case of the World Cup, nationalism. As someone who covered the game inside and out, writing "Goal Fever!" (published by AuthorHouse) was an opportunity for Mike Conklin to show it in a more complete, breezy fashion.

The tiny Caribbean island nation of Dominica has an identity problem. Often confused for the Dominican Republic and with its banana-dependent economy shaky at best, it sets an unusual goal to make a mark on the global stage - qualify for the men's World Cup soccer tournament finals in Moscow. Can it become The Mouse That Roared?

"This is a very global sport tale in which the reader gets a unique look at the world's most popular game, soccer, both on and off the playing field," Conklin points out. "It also gives a feel for different cultures and geography. No other sport can equal how soccer showcases the diversity in our international community."

"Goal Fever!" celebrates the teamwork involved in an uplifting, humorous manner. It is a multi-generational, breezy and informative read for all ages - and very suitable for young adults. It shows that, even at the highest levels, sports can be both suspenseful and fun.
