Aberdeen, MD

Aberdeen, MD. - In a Army town, a poor, young couple tries to make ends meet despite being married young. They struggled together to raise the family by all means but soon, the lack of education, joblessness and substance abuse began to take toll on their hope for a better life. Unable to handle the stress at home, both parents would leave their children alone for days while they stow away their individual lives to utter irresponsibility. This ultimately leaves three children separated for life. But just when it seems to be the end for the innocent siblings, hope endures, weaving an extraordinary tale of love, courage and faith.

In "Home Alone" (published by Xlibris) sisters Eryn Grey and Gia Summer share their real-life story of overcoming the odds of life. After 50 years of separation, they recount how hope kept them connected amidst five decades of being apart. In this moving memoir, Grey and Summer impart how they dealt with the difficulties of growing up in foster homes and new families, the threats of depression and alcohol problems and the adjustments needed to lead new lives. Both explore the veracity of their roots in an attempt to understand 'where did they come from.'

"We will never forget the day the social worker ripped our sweaty little hands apart to take us into separate homes," recalls Grey. "I asked over and over to see my little sister but my appeal fell on deaf ears," says Summer. Refusing to give up the hope of seeing each other someday, the siblings were ultimately reconnected after 50 years. It is through this book that they aim to share their story and inspire many lives that have trodden similar paths.

"No matter what it takes never give up on finding the ones you've lost," advises Grey. "And though a lot of negative things have happened, always leave room in your heart for forgiveness. That is the only way to find peace and happiness."
