In "I Am a Sidewalk" (published by Xlibris), author Matt MacGregor takes readers on a journey through the development of an American town. This story is about the establishment, growth, prosperity, eventual decline and renewal of a typical town in American as seen through the eyes of a sidewalk. This is where kids learn about the materials, processes and people that go into the planning, construction and day to day living in a typical American town. This is done through the use of well-crafted illustrations and helpful facts about navigating America's long but steady road to progress.

This picture book was created by the author to teach kids in a very whimsical and illustrative way about the life cycle of concrete, transportation, the environment and economic development. It also uses light cultural history to teach the importance of friendship, patience and pride in one's own job. The book also tackles the concepts of sustainability and livability and is put forward in an easy to understand manner. These concepts can lead the young to take an interest in STEM.

The author's wish is that his book will encourage kids of all ages - as well as the adults in their lives - to take an interest in their surroundings, to be fun, friendly, creative and have an upbeat outlook on life.
