With school leader evaluation increasingly required at districts throughout the United States, schools are working to identify what an effective school leader looks like, how effectiveness can best be measured, and what steps district leaders should take to ensure fair, unbiased school leader evaluations.

In response, education researchers Beverly G. Carbaugh, Robert J. Marzano, and Michael D. Toth have written School Leadership for Results: Shifting the Focus of Leader Evaluation. Based on historical and contemporary research, this book, published by Learning Sciences International, explores the importance of evaluating school leaders based on growth, rather than on measurement alone.

The authors describe ways to transform evaluation into a model that measurably improves the performance of school leaders, while aligning their vision, mission, and goals with practices that impact teachers and students. They explore domains, scales, and evidences that address key questions and provides a clear course to help school leaders prepare for evaluations.

"School leaders drive the effectiveness of teachers who, in turn, influence the performance of students," says Dr. Carbaugh. "To perform at the highest levels of effectiveness, however, school leaders need the right kind of support, training, vision, and tools. This book provides guidance to help districts evaluate school leaders in a way that ultimately improves student learning."

Learning Sciences International, a leading provider of print, web-based, and on-site solutions for professional development and performance management in education, supports schools and educational initiatives in 11 countries, three provinces in Canada, and 40 states in the United States of America. The company currently serves 427 school districts; 5,575 school buildings; 311,000 teachers; and more than 4 million students in the United States alone.
