MELROSE, Mass.

Author Margaret Redfern was a teacher for 38 years, during which time she educated approximately 1,400 students, grades three through nine. Redfern says she often received the gift of "giving" in her classrooms, getting a feeling of warmth whenever she would receive letters from students and parents.

Redfern now hopes to give the gift of giving to others with her children's book "Maddie's Magic Tree" (published by AuthorHouse), which follows a young girl who learns about giving by way of a magical tree.

Maddie loves animals and nature and has for the entirety of her young life. When she wakes up and sees the first snowflakes of winter falling, she quickly rushes outside to admire nature. As she steps outside she spies a young pine tree, heavily covered in snow. To Maddie's surprise, the tree waves to her, summoning her over. Maddie obliges and shakes the snow from its branches. What happens next is beyond even her great imagination?

Throughout "Maddie's Magic Tree," Maddie will learn about the merits of giving, as she watches the magic tree usher animals to sources of food during the harsh winter. While the tree receives gifts in return for its services, Maddie will learn that the real gift of giving, is the warm feeling it brings.
