NEW YORK

Having been a part of the EMS crews at the bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993, author C.B. Garris knew firsthand how EMTs and paramedics would respond on 9/11. He felt that one group often overlooked in the memorials that followed the events of that day was the medical first responders. His new novel, "M. O. S.: Member of the Service" (published by Trafford Publishing), seeks to pay a fitting tribute to those who perished as well as those who survived the attack on the World Trade Center in 2001.

"M. O. S.: Member of the Service" is a profound and deeply personal look into the experiences on the front lines of the EMS in New York City. The story is told from the perspective of Christian, a highly principled and dedicated New York City EMS paramedic. Through Christian, Garris shows not only the external stressors of the job, but also the inner turmoil that can happen as a result of dealing with life and death on a daily basis.

"This book brings this world to those who may not experience it themselves, yet want to know what it is like to be a part of all the action of the lights and sirens in New York City," Garris says.

An excerpt from "M. O. S.: Member of the Service":

"This group of both men and women, of all different backgrounds and cultures shared one simple bond: to be the best damn Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics that lived. There was such a sense of family yet at the same time what preserved that family unit was each person being able to hold their own weight, act autonomously when necessary and know when and how to function as a team."
