Set in England and South Africa, "Limbodeswill's Wain" tells the story of Dickey Tonking, an academic studying under the troubled professor Barry Richter. When a paper presentation goes wrong, Dickey must deal with the consequences, which gets harder when Barry is killed in a fire that looks suspiciously like suicide.

In a twist of fate, Dickey unwillingly witnesses a man trying to shoot his girlfriend, Cissy. Dickey gets a hold of the gun and shoots the man. Cissy flees the scene, and Dickey escapes to South Africa, to rekindle a romance with a doctor, but she refuses him. Instead, Dickey becomes infatuated with a nurse.

The police, however, are hot on Dickey's trail. They catch up to him in South Africa and take him back to England where he is found guilty and sentenced to prison. Cissy visits him, and they attempt a relationship, but the nurse Dickey left behind proves to be an obsession that he might not be able to escape.

About the Author
M. F. Dail was born in apartheid South Africa. A few years after leaving school, he left for Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia), where he spent 12 years working in the mining industry doing field and underground exploration and administration. He now lives in England, where he is enjoying a new career as a writer.
