Lloyd Edward Hopkins II Tells of Self-discovery amid Job Loss in New Book

On the day author Lloyd Edward Hopkins II lost his job, many would say that he lost his safety net, the station he inhabited, his source of income, of money. On that day, Hopkins' younger brother told him "Great! You Lost Your Job, Now Find Your Life!" The day he was terminated from his job would be the day he was inspired to write this book. That day would be the day he freed himself from the leash holding him back from his happiness.

The fear of an uncertain future was what Hopkins felt, his entire existence threatened by the termination of his source of monetary wealth. A life-changing journey would begin as one day of unemployment turned into a week, a month, and then, eventually, a year. After this experience, Hopkins would never be the same person again, as he made groundbreaking self-discoveries during this period. He was forced to face with the reality of who he had become, namely a semi-successful person who was, nonetheless, incomplete. While he had a job, and the monetary and material wealth that came with it, he remained a man who did not truly know himself. Only by losing his job did he realize this, enabling him to reassess his priorities, to reevaluate the rat race, the pursuit of wealth and material things, and how these may not be the source of a fulfilling existence.

By contemplating, by meditating, by exploring one's inner self, one can find the things that truly make life meaningful, sources of happiness that transcend monetary and material wealth. With these realizations, one can then reposition one's life towards the pursuit of these goals that can bring about true happiness - discarding the unnecessary constraints of life to attain an existence replete with love and meaning.

About the Author
Lloyd Edward Hopkins II grew up on the west side of Phoenix, graduating from Maryvale High School in 1997. It was the experiences that he encountered as a youth in Maryvale that he would turn into songs and a budding rap career as he performed under the alias Atllas. He would channel the angst of being an inner-city youth with aspirations of making something out of himself into a sonic landscape that would land him local acclaim and national attention. Though his rap career was promising, it never quite took off the way he imagined.

So as he pursued stardom, he always kept a consistent job as a plan B. The majority of Hopkins' work experience has been in community and nonprofit work, with an emphasis on children. Today, he is a married father of two, a graduate of Arizona State University Lodestar Center's Nonprofit Leadership and Management Certificate Program, and holds an associate of science from Phoenix College.
