On what was her inspiration for writing this book, author Linda M. Galante said, "My son Michael's sudden death at the age of 22 was the inspiration for this book. I was devastated and started writing letters to him about my thoughts and memories of him and the feelings I was experiencing. Each letter, although exhausting, gave me a certain comfort and made me feel closer to him. So I continued and included a few letters to my daughter, who was also struggling with her grief and living in a different city."
