Author Marjorie A. Brockman has been writing poetry since high school. So when she met with Vietnam veterans and heard their stories, she knew just the medium to record their accounts. Her new book of poetry, "Letters, Medals, Roses" (published by Trafford Publishing), puts readers into the hearts and minds of the soldiers of the Vietnam War.

"My book is a group of poems on different topics of the Vietnam War - children who never met their fathers wondering what it would be like to play ball with them, mothers who put their sons on planes for Vietnam and hoping they would come home," Brockman says.

"Letters, Medals, Roses" gives a voice to Vietnam veterans. The book discusses not only those who lost their lives, but also those who came back from the war broken - mentally or physically. Brockman hopes her book will resonate with soldiers of any war and that Vietnam veterans will think of the book as a just tribute to the sacrifices they made.

Brockman wants readers to leave "Letters, Medals, Roses" with the realization that the Vietnam War was unlike any other war fought because of the toll it took on soldiers.
