CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand

In his absorbing new novel, "Saintly Intervention" (published by Xlibris NZ), author Kevin Beardsley crafts a crime story set in Italy in which a New Zealand soldier's experience in 1944 is replicated by his grandson in 2013. This is a resonant tale of murder, passion and revenge. It reveals the faith of the grandfather believing that it was divine intervention that saved him in 1944 and hopefully would do so for his grandson in 2013.

Readers are introduced to Nonno Benogetti, a shepherd boy during World War II. His father was killed serving with the Italian army in the desert and is threatened by the Germans and their partisan in his own home. He is later saved from being executed by the partisans with the timely arrival of two New Zealand soldiers. He sees these two as being sent by the patron saint of Gubbio to save him as he had once long ago saved the citizens of Gubbio from annihilation.

Fast-forward to 2013, Nonno is now an old man. Although he is not an active participant in the drama that is happening around him, he sees an uncanny parallel that threatens a member of his family again. Nonno's grandson, a detective in Rome, is involved with a case gripped with drugs, murder and revenge. These problems escalate to include Gubbio and Nonno's farm and family. Greg Greenshill, grandson of the soldier who saved Nonno back in 1944 is unintentionally drawn into the conflict. Will divine intervention be enough to save Nonno's grandson from this troubling predicament?

"Saintly Intervention" will appeal to those who enjoy crime stories as well as those who will appreciate the broader aspects of the human condition reflected in the story.
