TRALEE, Ireland

Author Joy Agwu has always been motivated by her love for justice, women, children and freedom. Her latest publication titled, "The Dilemmas of an African child" (published by Xlibris) deals with the theme of family, friendship and human autonomy.

This book tells the story of a boy whose parents, in an attempt to find solution to their problems, find comfort in alcohol, which robbed them of the right to their only child and their reputation. After his parents succumbed to alcoholism, the young boy is taken to a foster home and later rescued by his uncle - the one who nurtured him up to his teenage years and sent him to a university for further studies.

Being a vulnerable child who never experienced parental love and attention, the boy is desperately looking for that attention by all means. Eventually, he got it from being a potential victim of a gang robbery in the school to a partner in crime that reveals his true nature and his love for human rights.

"I think "The Dilemmas of an African child" is a book everybody should read because regardless of colour, race or status, it addresses the issue of child abuse and child trafficking. It is appropriate for today's society where abuse of children and human trafficking is becoming rife all over the universe," the author said.
