John Kingston McMahon Releases Book on Forgotten Australians of the 60's

Author John Kingston McMahon accounts his search for his father and his roots, the ups and downs of the long journey to finding his self and his heritage in his book "A Long Way to Goulacullin."

Growing up in the harsh world of child welfare homes in Australia during the 1950s and 60s has been a challenge and an unforgettable memory for McMahon. The release of his parent's information was denied by the authorities and it made the search of the father who abandoned him seem like an impossible feat. Yet, after 47 years of hard, long and never ending search, he finally traced his heritage back to Ireland; he learned that his father was an Irishman who migrated to Australia after the Second World War.

Emotional and hopefully inspirational, McMahon's journey to finding the truth about his identity and the hardships of living with denied identities will surely touch readers' hearts and open their eyes to one of Australia's dark times. About the Author

John Kingston McMahon left school when he was 12 years old, spending the next 15 years of his life educating himself. He later married his first love and they were blessed with four children and ten grandchildren. He has been driving trains for around thirty years and expects to continue doing so for some time, believing that he still has much to achieve before the retirement stage of his life.

McMahon commenced writing this story in 2010 and completed the rough drafts on Christmas Eve of 2012. He refers to writing this story as the hardest thing he had ever done yet he takes solace in the fact that this memoir may help other Forgotten Australians to face their demons as he has in writing this book.
