Late in his life, author John Bancroft came to realize that there was much in his world that was uncertain. He asks questions such as: "Is God really knowable? Does uncertainty harm or benefit science? Can we be certain about our moral principles and how can historical examples guide our perspective?" Bancroft also provides the answers to these questions by examining the "Tolerance of Uncertainty" (published by AuthorHouse UK). This book first published in 2014 is given a new marketing push.

Using his decades of sex research, including his time as director of the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University, Bancroft examines the impact of uncertainty on his research and how he learnt to deal with it by using "models of reality." He goes on to consider such issues in relation to science, but also to morality and religion.

"It is important to recognize that there are many aspects of our world and life that are likely to remain unknowable and beyond our comprehension," said Bancroft regarding the differences between uncertainty and unknowability. "Humble acknowledgment of this is important for the next stage of development of the human condition."

In a carefully researched examination, Bancroft discusses now-discredited moral certitudes in historical context, notably the subjugation of women and slavery, and uses them as a touchstone for current social topics. "Tolerance of Uncertainty" addresses how society should move forward in the absence of certainty, proposing numerous functional "models of reality." His principal model, the revolutionary "Two-Team" approach, advocates the division of male and female labor between non-competing teams in the workplace, universities, government and beyond.
