Imagine eating a home-cooked meal that takes a fraction of the time it normally would take to prepare. That's the inspiration behind this new cookbook, created by a former Air Force member - known by most as Sgt. Potter - who treated not only her young sons but fellow flyers to homemade baked goods and meals. This single mom put their feedback to good use, learning shortcuts that allowed her to create delicious, nutritious meals and desserts while still having time to spend with her boys.

In "Sgt. Potter's Homecookin' with Short Cuts," Jennifer Palk (formerly Sgt. Potter) shares knowledge she's gained thanks to her time in the Air Force and years of baking with her family as a young girl. From Andrew's Chocolate Mint Cookies and Apple Butter to Zack's Apple Jack Cookies and Zucchini Bread, this family friendly cookbook arranged in alphabetical order offers something for everyone. Entrees include such offerings as Calzones, Dad's BBQ Ribs, Easy Parmesan Chicken and Roberts Chili. Diabetic-friendly recipes include Apple Pie Cake, Banana Pudding, Carrot Snack Cake and Sherry's Peach Cobbler. Even pets will find something to like with recipes for homemade dog biscuits and holiday dog treats.

Author Jennifer Palk served in the U.S. Air Force for 17 years, most of it as a single mother with young boys. She and her family live in Baxter, Tenn. She began compiling the material for the book when friends asked for her recipes.
