Jackie Carstairs was inspired to write a story about kangaroos after watching them lying beneath gum trees in her garden and bouncing over the paddock fences. "Billy Bounce" (published by Xlibris AU) is in rhyme and illustrated with paper collage. It is the story of a young, conceited kangaroo called Billy - a champion jumper who lives near Uluru in the Australian outback. One day, he accepts a dare and, wanting to show off, lands in trouble.

"I have used typical Australian words and expressions in this story for children," says Carstairs.

A very colourful and enjoyable read, "Billy Bounce" shows that sooner or later, when trouble strikes, everyone needs help and it is important to acknowledge one's own fault when this occurs.
