J. W. Vimikh shares a soulful account of his formative years as a mixed heritage child born to a black father and a white mother. His story shows how one man turned his life around and found his niche in this world. Although it has been "A Long Time Coming" (published by AuthorHouse UK), his story of rising above adversity and climbing the ladder of success inspires readers of all races and cultures.

Vimikh's semi-autobiography is about a 1950s child, born of a socially taboo relationship whose key players were subjected to vitriolic abuse, threats of violence and community rejection. After surviving an extraordinary sojourn in the care system the boy becomes a secondary school (high school) dropout and embraces law-breaking before rediscovering education and going on to become a qualified teacher. His raw, authentic odyssey is a platform for a rich discourse which explores concepts of family life, child development, teenage delinquency, race and ancestry.

"Millions of people in or the fruit of mixed, inter-racial relationships, through to parents or those seriously contemplating parenthood, are increasingly consumed by genealogy and tracing the perilous journey of their ancestors," Vimikh on why he penned his own story. "Many readers in the modern western world and beyond will see visceral parallels with their own life stories."

"A Long Time Coming" is a collage of hope, aspiration and parental love spanning life in 1950s London into the new millennium. It also provides a striking portrait of impressions and memories of one man's life back dropped by modern Britain.
