With the publication of his new short story collection, "A Collection of Souls: Tales of Terror, Delight, and Magic" (published by iUniverse), author J. C. Miller presents readers with stories of allegorical fantasy, symbolism and amazement.

Miller offers a diverse collection of stories filled with eclectic characters that transport readers back in time as helpless observers, sending them to a medieval Polish manor; to a Civil War battlefield to befriend a monster raised from the dead; to a Beverly Hills home where deceased relatives have set up permanent residence; and to a village where a dead spirit scares away coyotes and skinwalkers. More frightening tales beckon as ants play host to tiny alien travelers who have lost their way; a dog travels down back alleys guided by a master from another planet, and a human finds love in the arms of a beautiful alien.

An excerpt from "A Collection of Souls":

"I understand that time is supposed to go ever into the future. Just the same, I have had to struggle to observe this truism. For me, time seems like a snake that has circled back upon its own tail. Startled, it aggresses and swallows itself inside-out (only then to wonder what tale there is to be experienced on the outside). So it is that moments late in my life are indistinguishable from those of my first memories after birth. Time begins. Time ends. Then, time turns and slithers back to its beginning."

Miller's goal in writing is to entertain, but also to do something more. His book, he believes, "challenges readers to examine themselves and their world, to heed warnings, to value others and to never flinch in the face of conflict."
