WASHINGTON, July 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ Paris at night. Already we're expecting something special. And that's exactly what Gary Zuercher gives us in this gorgeous collection of photographs. His award-winning coffee-table book, The Glow of Paris: The Bridges of Paris At Night, bridges us culturally, architecturally, and historically to perhaps the world's artistically richest city. The book, ranked No. 1 on Amazon for Photography/Architectural books, is the perfect gift for photography enthusiasts, travelers, historians, and students of architecture.

Over a period of five years, he took his camera out into the Parisian night to capture stunningly evocative images of the bridges that span the Seine. Using his trained eye and sophisticated photographic technique, he created these glorious black-and-white photographs, rich with detail and possessing a clear, luminous quality. He also undertook painstaking research into the history of the bridges, the results of which deepen our understanding of their significance.

Kirkus Reviews said it is "an iconic visual record of the heart of Paris. A superb pictorial evocation of the City of Light, full of dazzling images and intriguing lore."

This collection is unique and remarkable. No one else has ever photographed all the bridges that cross the Seine in Paris in this way. We don't see crowds of people or heavy traffic. Nothing obscures the beauty and strength of the structure, the romance and symbolism of the bridges. Shooting in black and white allows the details to shine: the architectural elements, the artwork, nearby buildings, trees on the riverbanks, and starry lamps casting paths of light across the water.

"One night while photographing in the city, I greatly overexposed a shot by mistake," writes Zuercher. "As happens many times, a mistake can be the precursor to something positive, such was the case with this mistake. The negative from that shot produced a breathtaking photograph. It was a photograph of the Pont Alexander III, one of the most beautiful bridges in Paris, if not the world. That photograph inspired me to photograph all thirty-five bridges at night. The bridges are certainly alluring during the daytime, but at night they become majestic. They transform, with a luminescence that cannot be seen in the light of day. They glow."

"This book is a must for collectors of fine photography," says David M. Seager, the art director of the National Geographic Society.
