In order to come to terms with her daughter's death from cancer, former alcoholic mother, Henrietta Rose must find her path by mending relationships and contributing to Alcoholics Anonymous to move forward.

Award-winning author Barbara De La Cuesta's new novel, "Henrietta Rose," expresses the fear and complications of a woman who was depended on alcohol for most of her life and suffers from Korsakoff's disease. This influential protagonist eventually becomes a naïve painter, a raconteur and sought-after speaker at AA meetings.

"Rose suffers from her own demons and finds strength in recovery and connecting with her schizophrenic grandson, after her daughter passes away," Cuesta said. "Korsakoff's disease affects her short-term memory and ability to walk properly. Between her daily routine of painting and speaking at AA meetings, Rose remembers the dangerous path she took after her daughter passed away."

Cuesta touches on the problems and real-life situations that can happen when building a relationship with someone who suffer from alcoholism, cancer or schizophrenia.

"Alcoholism is a family disease, but sobriety is fun and funny," Cuesta said. "AA is no new age phenomenon but a kind of old fashioned miracle, its devotees in church basements are like the early Christians in the catacombs."
