Living in the United States of America was a childhood dream come true for Gittel Maria Barankowitcz. Still vivid in her mind are some Shirley Temple movies, the skyscrapers in the big cities, and the American Indian stories. Growing up during WW2 and the totalitarian Nazi regime made the author appreciate the American government and how it is constructed. Berlin, Germany is her place of birth and she still loves it, but there was hell to pay during WW2 and then the Russian occupation which made her look for her freedom in the US. Her life in the USA was not always pleasant but after all is said and done, she can say that they made it.
