Author Gerald M. Reiche believes many people are not living the lives they want, lives that fulfill their needs. He believes that many people of today's society are distracted or unfocused, which leads to a lack of motivation. He traces this ailment back to the self-imposed limitations, something he aims to eliminate with his book.

Throughout his book, Reiche hopes to drive home the point that no one has limitations in life that can hold him or her back, only those limits he or she imposes upon him or herself.
