According to author Frankie J. Holtz-Davis, thousands of responsible, outstanding, motivated and ordinary hard-working men continue making remarkable contributions to building and sustaining America's wealth and standing in the global community. In her compelling book, The Men Folk, she looks into the lives of African-American men whose life, work and dedication has led to immense growth and development of their families, communities and America as a rich continent in the global community.

The author realizes the importance of recognizing and honoring a segment of heroes most often ignored by mainstream America. This culture, as a whole, remains disenfranchised and struggle daily against what would appear insurmountable odds, living in America. However, the male segment of this culture is targeted and negatively oppressed more often than their female counterparts.

This book allows the readers to explore what it is like to endure discrimination, public scrutiny and persecution in a time and place where racism was and remains highly ignored. It showcases African-American men who hail from all walks of life, ranging in ages eighteen to ninety-eight years. A majority of these men were reared in traditional homes and they boast of being 'proud Americans'. They have contributed to America's growth and prosperity. These men are unsung heroes whose contributions were and largely remain ignored. Readers will appreciate the authenticity of each story; the uncanny and unbiased way they reveal their innermost thoughts, ideas and life experiences. It reveals their accounts of being African-American males living in the United States of America, a land their fore-parents were enslaved, suffered atrocities, and died building.

It is Ms. Holtz-Davis' hope that readers will consider the importance of heralding a culture's heroes and realize the authenticity of the stories, the realities, commonalities and historical connectedness of these men to their forefathers, to each other and their communities.
