In his tell-all memoir, "When Did I Start Looking Like a Cop?" (published by iUniverse), Joseph Belcastro offers a collection of short stories taken from his 20-year career as a New York City Police Department (NYPD) officer. From uniformed cop to plainclothes detective, Belcastro offers insights into the life of a "street cop."

Belcastro's inside tales highlight the dedication it takes to solve crimes and apprehend criminals. The book demonstrates how motivated and experienced officers can make a positive impact on crime-ridden neighborhoods.

Belcastro adds, "I want people to realize that in order to effectively maintain law and order you must allow the police to use the laws and their training and experience to create a safe environment for people to live in."

An excerpt from "When Did I Start Looking Like a Cop?"
I couldn't let him get away; I felt it in my gut that it was him. So we followed him down the subway stairs to the train, grabbing him in front of the token booth. A quick toss (search) and what did we recover from his jacket pocket? You got it-the orange box cutter.
