Author Ed Houston joins forces with his daughter Tiffaney Patterson to release a unique short story collection, "Tales in the Key of Life: Short Stories" (published by iUniverse), that captures snapshots of society.

The stories in "Tales in the Key of Life" feature intriguing characters that face difficult problems. Houston and Patterson incorporate themes of love, betrayal and delusion into their stories, creating a bevy of experiences for the readers.

In the short story "Diary of a Married Mistress," Karen fights against the mediocrity of her life, but her affair with a man called Mike might be more than she can handle. In "Who's Really to Blame?" Horace swears off cocaine, but soon finds he has an even more dangerous addiction that threatens to destroy another innocent life.

Through their stories, Houston and Patterson hope to entertain readers and provide a thought-provoking read.

"Good books are like good meals, and the chef makes the difference how the ingredients are served," Houston says. "My daughter and I are good word chefs and we serve a good tale."
