Fatema Rajkotwala Pens MY LOVE, AT 12

Fatema Rajkotwala, author of "I Died," captures the joys, laughter and challenges of pre-teen years in her new novella, "My Love, at 12" (published by AuthorHouse).

"The adolescent stage is a really complex and special time," writes Rajkotwala, who bases her novella off some of her own experiences. "The transition period from childhood to adulthood ushers in its wave a surge of emotions that one never thought capable of experiencing."

Set in a co-ed school in Mumbai, India, "My Love, at 12" follows the lives of Javed, Manju and Ajay, a group of 12-year-olds who are navigating the perils and pitfalls of adolescence. Javed is a street-smart athlete while Manju is a quiet, reserved girl. Ajay is smart, but often called a "sissy."

This year, the doubles tennis match will select a boy and a girl to compete on the team. Manju is chosen for the girl's spot, but the teachers debate between Javed and Ajay for the boy's spot. While the boy's spot is being decided, a teacher physically attacks a female student. Javed is enraged and joins a mob that destroys the teacher's classroom. His antics force him to withdraw his name from the match.

Manju and Ajay convince Javed, who is a better athlete, to coach Ajay. The three grow to be good friends and support each other for the upcoming match. Rajkotwala hopes her pre-teen audience will find her characters relatable and her message of friendship inspiring.
