WOODBRIDGE, Va.

Kicking off a new trilogy, "Evil in the Heart of Man: Ghana the War Chief" (published by Archway Publishing) is author Reed C. Dixon's new spiritually uplifting novel about the "world's first black superhero" that combines epic adventure, history and entertainment.

"Evil in the Heart of Man" introduces readers to 13-year-old Ghana, a West African boy whose capture by slave traders forces him to assume a new identity under the name Calvin.

Though as time passes, Ghana assumes another identity - this time as God's warrior, tasked with freeing himself and his fellow slaves from servitude. Guided by God's voice and aided by the supernatural, Ghana must defeat the evil that persists in 17th-century America.

Dixon says his book further emphasizes the constitutional edict that all men are created equal. He believes his book will inspire young, black adults to live by God's laws, because man's laws are flawed.

An excerpt from "Evil in the Heart of Man":

"The ocean was a stunning shade of blue, and I could see a pack of dolphins jumping in and out of the water, as if they were playing a game. Then reality began to creep back into my mind, I was a slave. I had only my dad, and no one else, I had to do as I was told or they would whip me, but even worse, they would kill me."
