In "Terminology Workbook for Medical Interpreters: A Language-Neutral Reference Tool" (published by iUniverse), author Cynthia Mauleón shares her years of experience as an interpreter and a trainer in the form of a new reference tool, consisting of lists of medical terms, grouped by topic, which are most-commonly used by interpreters in medical settings.

"There are some things in life that you 'can't not do.' For me, writing this book was one of them," Mauleón explains. "It was just the logical extension of the passions and interests that brought me to this point in my life."

Seeing the need for a practical, well-organized guide for interpreters, Mauleón put her experience and skills to work to craft a workbook that can be utilized in interpreter training settings, in hospital interpreting departments or by individuals preparing for their certification tests.

Mauleón hopes her guide will not only educate and assist medical interpreters but will also help readers see "that professional interpreters are an integral part of the healthcare team. That continual preparation is essential to providing quality care for our patients. That medical interpreting is a powerful act of social justice."
