Longy Han, Author of the children's picture book series Gusto & Gecko is helping to raise literacy levels, and inspire children to discover and learn about the world they live in. AUD$1000 of the books crowdfunding campaign in 2014 and 10 copies of the book are being donated to Australian charity Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
Longy Han, and Nic Bayley, a contributing photographer to the books, have also committed to book donations to major Australian children's hospitals, primary schools and kindergartens. Gusto & Gecko with Africa's Big 5 is the first book in the series, and is set in the Maasai Mara in Kenya. Readers will join the intrepid heroes - Gusto, a young boy always on the hunt for adventure and Gecko, his faithful pet companion, on an epic journey to discover animals in the wildebeest migration. Along the way, readers will also learn collective nouns and practise counting. Supporters of the books have expressed great enthusiasm for the concept and have rallied behind Gusto & Gecko campaigns on Facebook and Instagram in their efforts to raise more money for the crowdfunding project which ends on 30 October 2014. "I am a firm advocate for literacy because I believe it lays the foundation for lifelong learning and it is a tool of personal empowerment. The Gusto & Gecko series is aimed at children aged 5-8 years and each book is set in a different city. The books engage children to see the world from a different perspective." - Longy Han, AuthorVideos
