"Celebrate Short Fiction" Day is fast approaching, said organizer Nancy Christie. Christie, the author of the critically acclaimed short story collection "Traveling Left of Center and Other Stories," was instrumental in having the winter solstice (December 21st) officially declared "Celebrate Short Fiction" Day. "The winter solstice marks both the start of winter and the shortest day of the year," she explained. "So why not take advantage of the long winter night to curl up with a good short story?"

This year, Christie has organized a Youngstown, Ohio area "Celebrate Short Fiction" Day event at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 381 Boardman-Poland Rd, in Youngstown on Sunday, December 21, 1:00 to 4:00 PM. "The event's schedule is filling up quickly, but there are still some slots available for those who want to participate," said Christie. "Whether they want to read one of their own pieces or a short story by a favorite author, I'll be happy to include them on the list."

It's a great opportunity for local writers to share their work with bookstore patrons. "Romance, juvenile, sci-fi, slice-of-life or literary fiction-as long as it's suitable for the general public, it's ideal for this year's 'Celebrate Short Fiction' Day event," said Christie. "It's a win-win for everyone: writers reach more readers and attendees get to enjoy quality short fiction while taking a much-needed break from the holiday hustle and bustle!"

For more information or to register as a participant, writers and readers should contact Christie via email (nancy[at]nancychristie[dot]com) or phone (330.793.3675).
