Author Candan Y. struggled with alcoholism until she was introduced to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), which she says helped her to get sober. The new book, "The Journey Home: A Woman's Struggle with Alcoholism and the Message of Recovery That She Spread throughout Her Country" (published by Balboa Press), is Candan Y.'s story of her struggle with alcoholism as well as the story of how she established AA in Turkey.

Candan Y. was living in Brussels, Belgium with her family when she first obtained sobriety, for which she thanks AA. After five years sober, her family moved to Istanbul.

"There was no AA in Turkey and nobody had any idea about what it was," Candan Y. says. "Alcoholism was a hidden, immoral and dirty subject. I wanted to inform the people afflicted with this disease because they were sick and needed help."

"The Journey Home" offers hope to suffering alcoholics through Candan Y.'s personal story of getting sober in AA. She explains how the program taught her to stay sober and help other alcoholics in pain. She relates the changes she saw in her life and how she was able to grow spiritually after obtaining sobriety.

"Addiction is a great problem which affects many people today," Candan Y. says. "Every addicted person wants to get rid of the addiction. This book shows them how to do it."
