GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - After the successful release of his book, "Countdown to Atomgeddon: The Race to Build the First Atomic Bomb," which covered the first atomic weapon test in the desert of New Mexico, author James Howell now explores the events that led to this significant part in history. His new book, "Countdown to Atomgeddon - Europe" (published by Xlibris) lays down the truth through the author's creative manipulation of fiction and facts.

"Countdown to Atomgeddon - Europe" fictionalizes the Alsos Missions, an important part of the Manhattan project participated by leading western countries to create the atomic bomb. The book details the effort to procure many of the scientists, research materials and laboratory equipment from Germany, which, prior to the birth of the Alsos, was very close to developing the weapon that it would have insured world dominance by the Third Reich. The story unfolds through the narrative of two journalists from New Mexico who were tasked to document the Alsos activities.

The release of the book coincides with the 70th anniversary of the test of the first atomic bomb. About the Author
Author James Howell was born and raised in Socorro, New Mexico, a short 30 miles from Trinity Site where the first atomic bomb was tested successfully. He and his family moved to El Paso in 1955, where he attended Austin High School and Texas Western College. He transferred to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech University where he studied marketing and graduated in 1963. Howell joined the army in 1960 and was stationed at Killeen Base, a Defense Atomic Support Agency facility where atomic weapons were built, maintained and transported worldwide from Gray Air Force Base. Following his graduation from Texas Tech University, he became involved in the manufacture and sales of medical devices. Howell retired from the profession in 2009 and has been writing historical novels since. Howell now lives with his wife in Grand Prairie, Texas.
