GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - After the successful release of his book, "Countdown to Atomgeddon: The Race to Build the First Atomic Bomb," which covered the first atomic weapon test in the desert of New Mexico, author James Howell now explores the events that led to this significant part in history. His new book, "Countdown to Atomgeddon - Europe" (published by Xlibris) lays down the truth through the author's creative manipulation of fiction and facts.

"Countdown to Atomgeddon - Europe" fictionalizes the Alsos Missions, an important part of the Manhattan project participated by leading western countries to create the atomic bomb. The book details the effort to procure many of the scientists, research materials and laboratory equipment from Germany, which, prior to the birth of the Alsos, was very close to developing the weapon that it would have insured world dominance by the Third Reich. The story unfolds through the narrative of two journalists from New Mexico who were tasked to document the Alsos activities.

The release of the book coincides with the 70th anniversary of the test of the first atomic bomb. Harrowing in its precise depiction of historical facts, "Countdown to Atomgeddon - Europe" humanizes the information to give readers varied perspectives of the real impact of this product of human progress - an informative and insightful tale that combines elements of fiction and nonfiction to highlight an important milestone in the course of the human race.
