HOPE, Idaho

As a psychologist and psychotherapist for many years, author Bill Percy has heard hundreds, if not thousands, of painful-but-hopeful stories. Dipping from this pool of real-life experiences, he pens a compelling story showing how an initial tragedy could ultimately prove redemptive through the power of care and honesty.

Set in the fictional town of Jefferson, Mont., "CLIMBING THE COLISEUM" (published by Xlibris) follows the intersecting lives of a girl left to an uncertain fate in a small Montana town, a rancher snared in a 'Posse Comitatus'-like anti-government conspiracy, a deputy sheriff who investigates the two cases and a psychologist who struggles against his own inner demons as he helps them. They are all caught in a violent climax where, as a result of their dire circumstances, they must make the most formidable decisions of their lives and find themselves profoundly changed.

For all the main characters - Ed, Grace, Andi, Vic and Maggie - the book closes not with a happy ending per se, but with a sense that a new future is opening - with whatever it will bring. There is a lot of pain in the book but, in depicting a sense of having passed through the pain and moved onto to whatever is next, the story ultimately shows how even deep alienation and suffering can be healed by the power of honest and caring relationships among people.

A book of strong and engaging characters facing serious and complex problems, "Climbing the Coliseum" tells a story which, according to Kirkus Reviews, "has exceptional dramatic impact." Its highly emotional story interweaved with moments of humor and compassion works itself to hold the reader in suspense as the various plot lines twine together toward a violent, yet healing, climax.
