Arabian culture has influenced many great discoveries and inventions throughout history and there is no doubt that Arabian culture has left its mark on numerous other cultures. One such influence is Arabian Literature with the perfect example of the Arabian nights which consist of a collection of timeless stories such as Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves and Sinbad the Sailor, all of which are still being used for literature and media to this day. In truth these timeless stories have touched and inspired works of art throughout the years, and none more so than the authors of the Victorian era who have used certain aspects of Arabic culture in their works. A fact that author Mahmoud F. Ali-Ali intends to point out in his new book "Charming Orient Shining England."

"Charming Orient Shining England" is a study devoted to the impact of The Arabian Nights on four novelists of the nineteenth century: Charlotte Brontë, Charles Dickens, George Meredith, and Robert Louis Stevenson. These authors were selected on the ground of their life spans, which encompassed almost the whole century. Because they are among the masters of the English novel, it is reasonable to assume that they did not content themselves with mere imitations resulting in pseudo-oriental tales. Their original creations assimilated the influences from The Arabian Nights, forming new unified structures with interwoven references and allusions, which are to be redetected.

This highly informative and intriguing book shows how the Arabian Nights stories were able to influence and sometimes shape the literary perceptions of authors in the Victorian Era and contribute to some of the greatest literary works of the age.
