A gripping love story set against the backdrop of the early half of the 20th century is what Bui Tran Vuong offers in his new book titled The Reminiscence. In this heart-wrenching piece set in conflict-torn Vietnam all the way to The Land of the Free, he immerses readers into a moving plot that draws attention to love and commitment and how these weigh in contrast to dreams and ambitions.

In this trenchant romantic fiction, a special link sprouts from a chance meeting at the park. Vu finds his soul mate in the person of Jung, a woman of substance and beauty who selflessly reciprocates his love, time and attention to the man she envisions to spend the rest of her life with. It would be a cliché to describe their match as one made in heaven yet, at this instance, those words could never be more true. They blessed the day they met and built on the love they felt for each other that the prospect of a future with either one missing in the picture simply did not exist.

Love, however, is not always a bag of sunshine and butterflies. Vu is to make a decision that would separate him from her for time uncertain. Ever so supportive and assured in the thought that love will swell even when they are apart, Jung allows Vu to take a teaching position faraway, holding on to his promise of tying the knot between them as soon as he settles in his new place. Little does he know of fate's plan to spoil their union.

Readers can follow this intensely moving work of fiction that concludes with a grossly sentimental epistle certain to illicit a tear or two. An imposing story of seemingly perfect love, broken promises, and constricting regret, The Reminiscence is a poignant and unforgettable read.
