NEW YORK, Oct. 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ In 2010 Brian Aitken's life was turned violently upside down when he was sentenced to seven years in prison for possessing firearms he legally owned in the State of New Jersey. Four years later he has written a book about his experience as a pokerchip in Michael Bloomberg's multi-million dollar game to criminalize gun owners.

Aitken's book, published by Beard Face Books, The Blue Tent Sky: How the Left's War on Guns Cost Me My Son and My Freedom, hits stands nationwide tomorrow and can be found on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, as well as indie bookstores across the country including Denver's Tattered Cover Book Store and Powell's Books in Portland.

The book release comes on the heels of intense scrutiny of New Jersey's treatment of well-meaning gun owners, like Shaneen Allen, who was viciously persecuted by the Atlantic County District Attorney acting under a 2008 Graves Act directive to prosecute gun owners "vigorously," "strictly," and "uniformly".

Aitken wasn't as lucky as Shaneen Allen, who was recently offered Pre-Trial Intervention (PTI) that will result in her facing no jail time and no felony record after a one-year probationary period. Before Aitken even went to trial, a family court judge revoked his parenting time from his infant son just for being indicted with a non-violent charge. He was ultimately sentenced to seven years in prison after the judge refused the jury to consider the laws that would have exonerated him.

On December 20, 2010after spending four months behind barsGovernor Chris Christie issued Executive Clemency to Aitken, and demanded his immediate release from prison.

The Blue Tent Sky is the true story of the events that led to Brian's arrest and the years that followed. Aitken refused to change the names of the officers, prosecutor, and judges involved in his case, writing, "far too often those in power are immune from repercussions or accountability. Their transgressions are not only permitted, but are almost universally ignored, because they are members of the political ruling class and are, by default, above the law... since no one else will hold certain people accountable for their actions, I have held them accountable within these pages."

BOOK REVIEWS:

"I read the book in one setting. Stupendous achievement. Searing. Infuriating. Uplifting. All at once.

"Brian Aitken has written a searing memoir about his experiences inside a legal system that has lost its moral compass. From the police officers who violated his Fourth Amendment right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure, to the prosecutors who indicted him for exercising his Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, to the judges who failed at every step to apply the law correctly and evenhandedly, Brian learned to his great cost how deeply ironic the term 'criminal justice' has become for many Americans. That he can write about his ordeal with such dignity and even humor is a testament to Brian's courage, his integrity, and his compassion." - Clark M. Neily III, Co-counsel for the plaintiffs in District of Columbia v Heller and senior attorney at the Institute for Justice

"InThe Blue Tent Sky,Brian Aitken, with grace rather than bitterness, exposes the evils a scorned woman can inflict upon a good man and how a biased court system will work in her favor. A shockingexposeof cruelty and corruption." - Suzanne Venker, author of The War on Men.
