From author Renae, a "completely pure, completely honest" woman who has enthusiastically lived with several different "families" and courageously suffered different illnesses, Family Life is a stirring story about family and friendship, love and support amidst sickness and suffering. What stands out as most impressive is the story behind the story; the real life drama behind this posthumous literary work-Renae's story.

"Ever since Renae's birth, her life has been difficult," shares Danielle Burrows, Renae's sister, in the Prologue of the book. "She was born with a genetic disease called Myotonic Dystrophy...a muscle degenerative condition, which basically means the muscles waste away."

Renae had spent about half her life in hospitals because of her frail condition. However, she never allowed this to dampen her enthusiasm and dreams. In 2008, she was hospitalized and underwent an operation to remove a gall stone trapped in her liver tract. She simply describes this experience as a spiritual experience. In the same year, she went back to the hospital again for she had bile coming out of her peg tube and she was severe pain. Jotting down her experience later on, she simply gave praise to God for being well again.

Renae did not live long enough to see her work published, but her book offers a remarkable glimpse into a short but fully lived life. She had been no stranger to hospitals and group homes, doctors and nurses, illnesses and painkillers. These were the elements upon which her story is based. Readers can easily perceive that her story is not only written with a pen but also with an experienced soul and a reflective heart.

"On the 29th of March 2011, in the stillness and darkness of the early morning, my family was [shaken] with tragic news. My sister had passed away," says Burrows. However, Renae left behind her empowering celebration of the love between family and friends in Family Life, her book that portrays all of her narrative energy and illuminating insight, filled with optimism and joy despite life's adversities.
