Author Nwanganga Shields Discusses Marriages of Convenience in EJITURU

Marriage of convenience has indeed proliferated in today's society. What many describe as marital bliss is just merely a desperate course of action for others, a means to an end. This has been evidenced by the arrest done recently in Canada where the Canada Border Services Agency has charged seven people who were allegedly involved in a marriage of convenience scheme. According to Brandon Sun News, "the agency says the accused acted as go-betweens who arranged for Canadian citizens to marry and sponsor Chinese nationals". This just goes to show how such marriage has indeed become a rampant business for many opportunists. In the end, Ejituru finds out the hard way that indeed there is nothing convenient about marriage of convenience.

About the Author

Nwanganga G. Shields was born and raised in Arochukwu, Nigeria and currently resides in Bethesda, Maryland. She retired from the World Bank and is a widow with four grown children and eight grandchildren. Shields studied at University of St Andrews and American University. Inspired by authors like Orhan Pamuk, Julian Barnes, and Robert Harris, she hopes to give her readers something to think about with her own writing. Ejituru is her first novel.
