Author Maria Larson releases "The Night of the Jakal" (published by Xlibris). This compelling play chronicles a tale of passion, betrayal and revenge with heavy drama and timely exploration of today's problems.

When Victor married the only daughter of a wealthy businessman, the community received the news of their union with reluctance. The couple is met with difficulties. Linda wanted to be a perfect wife and mother. But after so many failures, they are forced to adopt a baby boy. Victor then starts to have affairs. He is also embroiled in gambling and drugs. These mistakes bind him to Lupe, his mistress. His life is a fiasco with no solutions. Can he get through it unscathed?

In this gripping play, Larson weaves a myriad of well-drawn characters that takes readers through the motions of life and its daily struggles. It explores the lives of a married couple, following them through bouts of infidelity, gambling and drugs. The story also touches on pressing issues faced by the world today - immigration, abortion and health care.

About the Author
Maria Larson was born in Patillas, Puerto Rico. Her early years were spent in Mayaguez, Salinas and Cayey. She attended Robinson High School. She graduated in Polytechnic Institute in 1953 with a major in chemistry and minor in mathematics. She then went to University of Pennsylvania, where she received a physical therapy certificate in 1954. Her associations and accomplishments include the following: member of the Board of Medical Examiners since 1957, American Physical Therapy Association, Chamber of Commerce Judicial Committee; self-employed; member of American Physical Therapy Group; and member and founder of the Women's Council. She is also the founder of the Cajon Physical Therapy Corporation, with offices located in Yucaipa, Redlands, San Bernardino, Riverside and Upland in 1972. She was voted Woman of the Year in 1978 by the American Business Women's Association. She is fluent in both the Spanish and English languages.
