FOND DU LAC, Wisc.

If nothing else, life is a series of decisions. Each person has a chance every new day to determine how he or she will think, act and react. Author James Benedict encourages his readers to make those decisions thoughtfully in his new memoir, "Choices through the Sea of Life."

Benedict was raised in New England during the 1950s. His father's service to the United States Marine Corps during World War II had a significant impact on the author's life, and he chose to work with the military in his own way. The author attended Maine Maritime Academy and began working with the merchant marines as an engineer.

Benedict's long time commitment to his faith has also played a major role in his own choices. "Choices Through the Sea of Life" extensively describes his faith journey, including his time as a monk in a Benedictine monastery.

Benedict encourages readers to make thoughtful decisions instead of recklessly moving through life. As someone who wrestled with his core values to navigate his own life, the author hopes this guidance will help readers to think through their own choices and ultimately live lives that make them proud.

"No matter which path of life we choose, our faith is the beginning foundation to build and nurture a life of meaning," Benedict said.
